Seaplane Events! Fun! Fun!

APRIL 10, 2010
I flew into the Tavares Seaplane Base opening today. The event was called Planes, Trains and barbecue! It was a good time to have for all! I took off on runway 33 at Orlando Apopka airport (X05). The winds were gusting out of the east north east at 12 to 15 knots. I definitely tested the excellent crosswind capabilities of the searey.
I arrived at the seaplane base at around 10 a.m. I was pleasantly surprised to see three other seareys there and then watch 10 others arrive within the next hour.
There were alot of different types of aircraft that attended the spash in from Cessnas on floats to Maules on floats to Lake amphibians, Seabees, and a friend of mine,Richard Johnson even brought his Air Cam on amphib floats, which is an awesome airplane.
There were alot of people attending the festivities to enjoy the barbecue, watch the seaplanes and enjoy the airshows at 11 and 3. I left at 4p.m and flew back to my house and now getting ready to fly to Garners landing for Russ Garners annual Searey "splash in" tomorrow. I'll write my report on another fun day of searey flying when I get back!

Just another day of flying fun with fellow pilots. It was another day for a gathering of seareys at the annual Searey splashin at Garners Landing in Auburndale Florida. I took off from Lake Minnehaha in Clermont at 10:00 a.m. for a 30 minute flight to Russ and Lou Ann Garners beautiful home on Lake Arietta. By 11:00 a.m/ 20 seareys had arrived and we all enjoyed a wonderful spagetti lunch courtesy of Lou Ann with a lot of hangar flying going on. Kerry put on a really spectacular airshow with the new LSX. The winds really started picking up at 3:00 and it was time to take off and return the airplane to its home at Orlando Apopka airport. The 40 minute flight back was bumpy and the landing on runway 33 with a 90 degree direct crosswind gusting to 17 knots made the flight very interesting but fun because as we all know we are always trying to test our skills as pilots. Im really looking forward now to the EAA splashin at Fantasy of Flight in Polk City on Thursday.
There are always events for us to fly to and enjoy the flight there and the company at the event! If you are interested in attending an event, please feel free to call me or e-mail and I'll let you know of upcoming fly in's. 352-255-1400 or seareyman53@aol.com

Keep an eye out for Tavares events, they are the "Seaplane City "now! They have constant events going on all year round.
